Davenport is a member of the Quad Cities area, four Midwestern cities on opposite
banks of the Mississippi River. The other members of this group are Rock Island
and Moline in Illinois and Bettendorf in Iowa. Davenport boasts many interesting
attractions, including the River Music Experience, which contains a series of
interactive exhibits, performances, events and programs that teach people about
American music. Davenport and the surrounding area is rich with history as it
encompasses the childhood home of Buffalo Bill and the Walnut Grove Pioneer
Village, a living heritage area. During the 1800s, an influx of German immigrants
settled here and today their contributions are recognized in several sites,
including the historic Schuetzen Park, translated as shooting park in German,
and the German American Heritage Center. Explore more than 3,500 pieces of art
at the Figge Art Museum, which reopened in the summer of 2005 after a complete
renovation.
